WHAT IS SHIITAKE MUSHROOM BETA GLUCAN?
Our recent in vivo study (Masterson et al., 2019) shows the potential of shiitake mushroom beta glucan as a lung infection preventive agent. Finding reliable sources of beta-glucans suitable for lung delivery can be challenging due to low quantities or microbial contamination in natural and commercial products.
Our research demonstrated that purified shiitake beta glucan (Lentinan) from the Shiitake fungus Lentinus edodes reduces clinical isolate Klebsiella pneumoniae populations with multiple antibiotic resistances in an in vivo lung infection model.
